CALL TO ARTISTS: Artist in Residence
Deadline: Saturday, March 30, 2019 2:00PM CST
The Buchanan Center for the Arts is seeking an artist for the new Artist in Residence program in Monmouth, Illinois. The residence will run from approximately June 1–September 15, 2019. This residence is an opportunity for the artist to engage with the community to create a public mural, teach classes at arts partner locations, as well as create a body of work for exhibition at the end of the program.
The Buchanan Center for the Arts and its members believe that art promotes social innovation, makes valuable contributions to society, and enriches our community. The selected artist will have the opportunity to expand his/her own civic and social practice while teaching and working with our residents to create artwork. The goal of this residence program is to infuse creativity and artistic perspective into everyday life, inspire our community to approach problems with new mindsets, and to support artists who value community building as part of their practice.
Selections will be made based on the criteria listed in the application. A selection panel comprised of members from the Buchanan Center for the Arts board of directors and community arts partners will review all the applications. Finalists may be selected to be interviewed by the selection panel in person or virtually. The selection panel will review all submitted applications within 30 days from the deadline of March 30, 2019. Review of applications will begin Tuesday, April 2, 2019, with a final decision expected by Wednesday, May 1, 2019. For more details and to apply, please click on the link below. Our BCA interns have had a creative and busy summer. This past week they spoke with Fran Riley, Feature Reporter with KWQC Channel 6 News and shared what they have learned about the importance of partnerships and what the Buchanan Center for the Arts means to the community. Special thanks to KWQC and our wonderful business neighbors at the Warren County Public Library. Click here to view the article.
Over the course of the last 25+ years, Buchanan Center for the Arts has served the residents of the Warren County region and beyond, providing creative and diverse artistic experiences. Our friend, Tim Kramer, along with BCA board member, Emily Rollie, created a video that shares the story of the impact the BCA has had on our community and its residents. (Click here). We are grateful to them for putting the video together and hope you will take a few minutes to watch it. Thank you for your continued support of the arts in our community.
